From the Echo on Friday:
A CRISIS meeting will be held by council bosses and contractors over the Sadlers Farm roadworks.
The meeting will take place on Monday after Essex County Council admitted it had missed another deadline for the completion of the £63million project.
The two-year roadworks were designed to remodel the notorious Benfleet junction and improve journey times in south Essex.
But they were originally supposed to finish in the spring and then by yesterday, but both deadlines have passed and there are still no guarantees the work will be finished by the time the Olympic mountain bike event takes place at Hadleigh Farm, on August 11 and 12.

Things have definitely got better recently , but even so the delays are disappointing….
Meanwhile the County Councillor in charge of highways apologises here:
“Unfortunately there is still a degree of work required at Sadlers Farm that will not be completed by 27th June as we had expected.
“Although all individual elements of the scheme are now open, traffic is in the main flowing freely and we have received positive feedback on journey times, there is still some work that needs to be completed on the scheme before we can safely move away from the network as planned.
“We are now in discussion with the Olympic Delivery Authority around the best way forward on this. While my priority is ensuring that this work is completed as soon as possible, we also need to avoid causing any traffic disruption around the 2012 Games. I will provide an update on this as soon as a decision is taken. In the meantime completion work will continue.
“I am very disappointed that work has not been completed, and would like to sincerely apologise to residents for this further delay. I assure you I that am doing everything in my power to get this scheme completed as soon as possible.”
Oddly enough, below this apology, there’s still some old spiel about how the works are ‘progressing rapidly’!:
They can’t even properly update their own website…
