The Census Results For Rochford

The first population info from the 2011 census came out today.

There’s plenty of stuff about it on the national newspaper websites – the Guardian is particularly good at presenting the data with an interactive map. Here’s their main graphic for Rochford:

A few points worth thinking about :

  • the population of our district went up by 6% in 10 years, slightly less than the national trend. But Castle Point next door had an increase of only 1% (though they still have a much higher population density than Rochford)
  • There’s a big increase in the number of over 65s – up by 21% in 10 years. And if you are in the over 65 age group you may be encouraged to know that….
  • …There’s also a big increase in the number of the over 90s !
  • At the other end of the age spectrum the number of children under five years of age has dropped by 2%
  • The number of children aged between five and and fourteen has dropped by 6% !
  • For the rest of the population (aged between 15 and 64) there’s been a 5% increase.
