No Ball Games ?
On FixMyStreet , a resident badly wants a no ball games sign back in Hullbridge:
Street sign
Reported by Paula harbrow at 17:12 today
Sent to Essex County Council and Rochford District Council 2 minutes laterBy the green grassy area there was a no ball games street sign, it was broken years ago and I have tried every avenue trying to get it replace including Rockford district council, local parish council, local conservative and labour representatives with no avail , it might not be important to some but you don’t live here, it does help stop football balls being kicked into our property here in Keswick ave.

Rochford District Council carries out grass cutting on behalf of the County Council.
If you see a grass verge that badly needs cutting, you can report it

Unless there is a byelaw preventing the playing of ball games on this patch of land, what is the point of errecting such a sign? If the real concern is about balls being kicked into other properties, why not apply for a grant to install a sports cage?

Yes, get a grant, say from the Sports Council, to install a kick / rebound wall. When it get vandalised and covered in graffiti reclassify it as an art facility. Saves cleaning it.

Why not grow a hedge or put up a fence?

RR – Notice I didn’t mention a kick wall, for that very reason – they are also much noisier!

Why should they have the expense and inconvenience of erecting a fence or growing a hedge to stop other people’s kids spoiling the enjoyment of their homes ?
Why don’t these kids play in their own gardens ? Probably because its easier to get rid of them so they annoy other people.
