Should Essex Copy Gloucestershire?
In Gloucestershire, County Councillors are allocated £20,000 each to repair potholes in their area:
Gloucestershire County Council Conservatives has announced each councillor will have £20,000 to fight potholes in their local areas, doubling the amount of last year’s allocation.
The money forms part of over £5m of extra investment in roads above the existing agreed budget.
Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: ‘After a hard winter, the condition of Gloucestershire’s roads isn’t good enough. This money will help all councillors fix the problems in their area. By making decisions at a local level it will help us target the repairs that really matter to local people.’
