  • We have been told by RDC that high fencing will be going around the damaged equipment tomorrow .
  • So the padlock will go and the rest of the equipment will be available by tomorrow evening.
  • The equipment isn’t insured (pretty hard to get insurance for this sort of thing).
  • The good news is that the District Council has funds that can be used to replace it, and intends to replace it.
  • The bad news is that the suppliers of this equipment aren’t always quick to deliver.
  • So we have emphasised to RDC to how bloomin’ LOVED this equipment is and that if they can’t get an identical piece of equipment they should quickly install something else instead.
  • We know just how much children have adored using this equipment and we will let people know when we have some more news.
  • In the meantime any comments about things the district council or the police should be doing would be welcome.

  • Chris,

ASB has been going on in the playground / car park for at least 13 years YES 13 YEARS although this occurrence of arson is probably the worst. Rayleigh police and the council are all aware of this but yet again we have another incident ( for want of a better word )

So, how much longer does it go on for ? another 13 years ?

I’m sick and tired of everybody being aware of it but bu**er all done to stop it.

  • Its a shame that more locals are not willing to support the Friends Of Sweyne Park Group too! If we all stick together then perhaps something can be done and our voices heard. On Sunday night there were both Police and Ambulance vehicles called to the park with paramedics in action. Yesterday morning my daughter was too nervous to walk to school and reported small plastic bags littered all around the bridle pathway!!

  • There is another solution guaranteed to stop the problems, remove the Cloverleaf play area, dig up the car park and replace with grass. Take away the entrance and make the pavement continuous to go across the former entrance.

    Why not ?

  • Chris,

Yes, valued by the parents who don’t live anywhere near it. Maybe not so valued by the people who have to put up with the rest of it.

Anyway, that’s beside the point, this is due to a complete failure of Rayleigh Police to put a stop to the ASB in the area.

  • small minority create a bad name for all. I haven’t wanted to take my children over since but i shouldnt be put off.

How about putting high fencing round the whole play area and locking at night ?

  • Matt,

This idea has been around for years but it raises other issues, who is going to be responsible for locking / unlocking ? what happens if unruly youths refuse to leave at locking up time ?

The only way forward is for the police to put the time & effort into catching and prosecuting those responsible for the trouble.
