Uncontested Parish Elections!

There aren’t going to be any contested parish council elections for either Rawreth Parish or Rochford Parish this year – there were fewer candidates than spaces available. So there are two vacancies in Rawreth and five vacancies in Rochford.

Additional councillors will now have to be co-opted, this is quite common at the parish level .

  • I feel lack of knowledge that this was even election year for Parish Council could have been an issue here. I had actually been looking on the Parish website but under elections it still gives details of the 2011 District Council election and there is nothing under news either. There may be something in the minutes but the April ones still aren’t up.

Don’t see the point of having the website if this sort of thing isn’t kept up to date. By the way, I know Hayley does a magnificent job as Parish Council Clerk, she can’t do everything, perhaps one of the Councillors should take on the job of keeping the website current and relevant.

  • Rawreth are a nice Parish Council if anyone reading this is tempted to give it a try. At parish level people who have no axe to grind but simply want to do a bit for their local community are best. It is a varied role and you are often the first port of call. You can not change the world but this role means you can do a little bit for your corner of it.

  • Christine I am sorry you were unaware of the election .It was mentioned on this site ,in the Parish Magazine ,there was a formal notice on the notice board ,also for the last three meetings it was mentioned ,to encourage new blood . I take your point about the parish website and think it is good idea that a Councillor should take more responsibility for keeping up to date as Hayley cannot do everything . There has only been one election and. I am the last survivor of that when the Council was reformed .We are now looking to co opt which is not satisfactory for Democracy, so if you believe you can add to our experience please let Hayley know ,as I think you could add a common sense breath of fresh air !

  • A,Matthews – common sense breath of fresh air or right royal pain in the you know what! I’ve been told I’m both at various times.

I’ll have a think on that. Not fair to hi-jack this forum but perhaps I could have a private word with you sometime about time involved that sort of thing.

  • Can you define Rawreth Parish please ? – is it the village of Rawreth or does it extend further afield – is there a map with the boundaries marked perhaps …..thanks – JIM.

  • From a Town Council member to Christine – please volunteer. You will be, as I frequently am , peoples first port of call. Your main role would be simply to give residents the details they need to reach the correct person. e.g. who do I contact about the pothole, my non working street light. This is not about major political decisions but more about support for residents who feel their complaint is being listened to and someone is helping.

  • Jim, I am utterly surprised that you do not know that the 550 dwellings to the north of London Road are all in the Parish of Rawreth The first batch of dwellings prpososed for the approach to Hullbridge are also in the Parish of Rawreth. How could you have you missed this point in all the delving you have done?

  • Rawreth extends along the Wickford boundary to the River Crouch to the border of Hullbridge roughly directly south and parallel to Hullbridge road including most of the Rayleigh Park Estate ,on the north side of Rawreth lane including Lubbards Lodge Farm ,to a point just beyond Asdas then south again including all Laburnham Close Estate .Hits A129 at lower barn slightly to the east off, south again to the Woodlands Trust ,West including all St Johns Drive and Beke Hall north and south to the Railway, several kinks in a generally westerly direction including Dollymans and Rawreth Barns to hit the Basildon Boundary .Michelins Farm is in Rayleigh Towns area. Rawreth includes part of the large Hamlet of Battlesbridge which it shares with Rettendon .Hope that gives you a rough idea Jim .

  • Thanks for that ( A. Matthews ) , and Greenbelt – I think you miss-read the motive of
my question , I was trying to establish wether where I live falls within the parish boundary ( I believe a parish councillor should reside in the parish ) in considering
the vacant positions. And yes I did know it covers the Core Plan housing areas.

  • I have now found a Parish Map online and I live just outside the Rawreth Parish boundary – as outlined by A.Matthews but in picture form.
