You have a month to nominate someone for the Rochford DC Citizen of the Year awards:

Do you know someone from the Rochford District who has made a huge difference to your community? Is there a local person who you think deserves to be recognized for all they do for those around them? Now is your chance to nominate them for an award!
——
From helping out a neighbour, to tirelessly working in the community, the Chairman of Rochford District Council, Councillor Mrs June Lumley, wants to hear about people who truly deserve recognition in this year?s Rochford District Citizen of the Year Awards.

The awards are presented by Rochford District Council to recognise and acknowledge individuals of all ages in the district for their valuable hard work or outstanding achievements. They are designed to honour those who may not normally be recognised for their efforts.

Nominations are open to all, and will be considered by the judging panel who will select winners in the three categories. The categories are:

Young Citizen (under 18 years)
Charitable Support (all age groups)
Community Spirit (all age groups)

An overall Citizen of the Year winner will also be chosen from the three category winners. All nominees will be invited to a Citizen of the Year Awards Reception on Friday, 15 May 2015, where the Chairman will present the Overall Winner and winners of the three categories with their awards.

The Chairman of Rochford District Council, Councillor Mrs June Lumley, said: ?I am very proud to be hosting the 2015 Citizen of the Year Awards.

?Across the District we have many unsung heroes, from caring people who tirelessly help out their neighbours, to the youth leaders who give so much of their spare time to organise clubs and activities for our district?s children.

?We all have that moment when we think ?that person should get a reward for everything they do!?. Don?t miss your chance to finally give them the recognition they deserve!?

  • Has anybody seen the flyer from the conservatives in lodge ward ? in there they make what I would say is a personal attack on Mrs kendall by asking “what could we all do for the area with the £70,000 wasted taking the council to court”. As a person who is not affiliated to any party and just supports the politicians/councillors that in my eyes are doing the right and honest things in the district this just reads that how dare anybody question us.
Well doing work myself in the community I am yet to find anybody in favour of 100’s of houses being built with no infrastructure so maybe instead of slagging off people that stand up for the majority why not do what you were elected to do and represent what your constituents want. I as a resident of Lodge ward and think this was a disgusting comment and I am sure this will backfire on you.

  • A logical response would be ” 70 K is insignificant compared to more than £2.1million spent by RDC on a Core Plan that nobody agrees with ” – and this is not the first time that a Tory Flyer out of Lodge Ward has tried to belittle the efforts of The RAG . I think
They must be the Cabinet ‘toadies’ who vote as they are told to & I would like to see a copy- as on the previous occasion it made unsubstantiated claims , would be a good one to challenge in a letter to the ECHO.

  • The Councillor representing Lodge Ward is I think Ian Ward. Fairly new to the district he was know to be pumping the hands and slapping the backs of members of the West Area Committee when they were fighting the developments in 2008 stating he was delighted people of his NEW community were fighting to prevent Rayleigh turning into the urban sprawl similar to the one he had come from (I believe it was the inner London Borough of West Ham so one could understand his enthusiasm). Having had a meteoritic rise to fame by being elected, to the Rayleigh Town Council then in 2010 the District Council, he has recently been gifted the ‘hot potato’ of the Planning Portfolio that no other Tory wants (usually they would be scrapping on the Chamber floor for this plum job with its’ perceived power and prestige) and has had a ‘St. Paul on the road to Damascus conversion’. He was found spouting, on the radio on 19th December 2014, what a wonderful Local Plan we have that will lead to the massive housing estates. (West Ham is getting closer Mr Ward). Since then he has done another volte face and joined in with his new friends to vote, in the Council Chamber, against the first development proposal that this £2.1 million set of plans has produced. Incidentally citing every challenge I put before the Planning Inspector and High Court demanding its’ striking down! Perhaps if he spends some time checking public expenditure he will look at what was suggested to move a bus stop 100 metres on Hullbridge Road. I will save him the time it was also 70K . Note also the sum of £70K, in legal costs, included £40K fees for a Barrister when RDC already employ one, in house that we already pay for, and that RDC were ordered to pay me £11860 in a Wasted Costs Order due to their legal teams time wasting in the court. Would he like to make a public comment on that FACT or issue another flyer explaining how that happened? That total of £51,860 would pay for a good number of OAP dinners and lollipop ladies. Councillors that live in glass houses should beware of throwing stones.
