Cross-party congratulations to Mark Francois on becoming a Minister Of State in the Department of Communities and Local Government.? This can’t do our district any harm, and he certainly knows a lot about the subject!

I would like to think this is a good thing for “us” , certainly the ‘local government ‘ bit –
Namely 39 Councillors , only 9 on the inner Cabinet that drives/whips & dictates policies around here.
The National Press might see a story in that ( in due course ) if it stays the same, will be watching his every move closely.
I would guess though he will gave to tread a fairly fine line to avoid accusations of treating his own constituency differently to others
Too much blue in our area. We need a balance in local government. Very sorry Toby didn’t retain his seat. Positives? MF is a good constituency MP, & one of the few who has never been tainted by scandal.
Hey Ho! We get another chance to exercise our democratic right in 5 years!
Meanwhile we will just have to suck it & see. I hope Rayleigh gets a fair deal during the current administration, otherwise we might just have to declare Unilateral Independance.
Janet@3, sorry, I thought it is blue because that’s who people voted for…..what do you propose ? I do understand the house rules but that is really a silly post.
Janet is right, the Conservatives won 85% of the council seats last Thursday with only 45% of the vote. More balance would be good!
I am pleased about this, but think Christine has made a very important point.
Admin@5, yes I am sure you would be complaining if the map turned yellow under the same rules…..you have to face facts, people have rejected yours, and Labours, policies.
Unless you go to some form of PR, which was comprehensively rejected in the referendum, then this inequality is always going to happen. PR would give constant hung parliaments and coalition government and I think the electorate have decided they don’t want to go that route again, and you can’t have local PR but not national.
Have to agree with Oz. But were local issues in the minds of the voters when voting for a District Councillor or simply putting 2 crosses by the 2 Cons. or UKIP candidates. Which ever way can the electorate really complain when the District Council continues with unpopular housing development~? The fight continues for the best deal.
I have followed MArk Francois’ performance throughout the last Parliament via the ‘They Work For You’ email newsletter. He has a very good record of parliamentary questions and answers.

Welcome to onlineFOCUS, Jim Dew !
Jim @ 10 – welcome aboard , and let us hope he has an equally good record in maintaining his Manifesto stance on no development without commensurate Infrastructure ,a view recently endorsed by the RDC in a quote by their leader
( Cllr Cutmore ) in the ECHO……..????
Does anyone really know what Mark Francois MP will be responsible for in the DCLG? Some reports then said Cities which is Greg Clark’s old job in the Cabinet Office not DCLG. And Brandon Lewis has retained Housing in the DCLG. But the Echo said last week Portsmouth and Coastal Towns in the DCLG. Confusing. But surely we should know.

Having read that document it seems it has nothing to do with us ( although we do get a bit coastal when it rains heavy )…..
