Rayleigh Boys Get Permission For Weekends And Two Evenings A Week

After a very convoluted debate, Rayleigh Boys’ application was passed – but not with quite all that they asked for. They were given permission to play on Saturdays as well as Sundays, but only for 2 evenings a week instead of 5….

    • James – Because the residents who live in what used to be a quiet part of the countryside would have been disturbed by having matches played next to them 7 days a week…

  • So now we wait for Academy Soccer to apply to extend their permission to include evenings. Will the council monitor traffic and noise levels when evening play takes place, or do,residents just have to retreat indoors with closed windows on those evenimgs

  • can anybody explaining simple terms how R.D.C.Development Committee reach their decisions.I refer to the problems suffered by the residents of Old London Road and Church Road Rawreth.First they pass permission for 10 football pitches for Rayleigh Boys F.C.stipulating use for Sunday’s and 8 Saturday’s including in these 10 pitches are 2 pitches in favour of Sports Events which can only play Sunday’s only .Then Academy Soccer apply for permission for 8 pitches on an adjoining field This is passed stipulating Saturday and Sunday only.Week night use was refused because of noise nuisance etc.to the local residents Last night RBFC applied for week night use and this was passed Where is the logic ?Weare now in the position of one club playing during the week in direct opposition to the second club.it is quite obvious that the second club will now apply for the same conditions as the first club which will be contrary to the conditions applied to their application. What a farce.!!!this small area of Rawreth could now suffer 18 football pitches playing 24/7?When was our Human Rights considered why must we suffer all this noise and disruption to our lives we are entitled to live the life we were used to before all these football pitches were forced on us.The development committee should hang their heads in shame.

    • Dave, can’t explain all of the reasoning but can relate the order of events.

Councillor Ward, who had called the item in, moved approval of the application ( weekends and 5 evenings). This was opposed by a number of councillors including myself and Ron. Councillor Keith Hudson suggested a deferral to allow some kind of management plan to be created. However he couldn’t move that because there was already a motion on the table.
After a lengthy debate , Cllr Ward was persuaded by the arguments about evenings, withdrew his original motion and then immediately proposed a new one for weekends only.
Cllr Heather Glynn moved an amendment to allow 2 weekday evenings as well. The amendment was supported by a fairly narrow margin of votes, and then the motion , now amended to include 2 evenings a week, was then passed. For the record Ron and myself voted against the amendment and then the main motion.

Cllr Glynn , when she spoke, spoke warmly about Rochford Rugby Club ( she used the word ” amazing” ) and that having 2 evenings available would help Rayleigh FC catch up with fixtures postponed due to weather. I did point out that this wasn’t what the club wanted evenings for but her mind was clearly made up.

  • Heather Glynns comment is interesting. There is a difference between a Rugby Club and a football club in my opinion .The old adage of a Gentlemens game played by hooligans and a hooligans game played by Gentlemen although slightly extreme has an element of truth .Probably nearer the truth is the parents and spectators(some) are the source of most of the disturbance .Rayleigh Boys is a well run club and mostly have had reasonable relations with locals ,but the tolerance to further expansion is pushing their patience a little too far .It may be the case that with up to 46 teams the organisation may be getting a bit to big to control and regulate. I would like to reiterate that Rawreth is on the whole tolerant ,but we are having to absorb so much change with various development pressures as well as leisure proposals ,that really some respite to the erosion of our residents Human Rights ,should have been recognised at the Planning Meeting .No the usual suspects either spouted irrelevances or sat on their hands only raising them to pass the amended motion .It should have been deferred as proposed by Councillor Hudson to enable proper safeguards to be negotiated. It was not a very satisfactory meeting ,Chris managed to help the Chairman sort out the various motions .Unfortunately several Councillors were refused the chance to speak including our County Councillor who did vote against the motion .

  • Chris at this moment of time can you throw a light on whether RBFC got permission for 2 evenings for catch up games or friendly’s Cllr Clynn stated according to you that it was for catch up games when fixtures are postponed due to weather?

    • Jean, they were simply given permission for two evenings a week. Heather Glynn’s stated motivation was to help them catch up with fixtures postponed by weather, but her amendment was for 2 evenings a week for any reason.

  • So , what you are saying is this is another example of a Councillor somewhere else ( Hawkwell ) driving a decision in the Rawreth area!!!!.
Seems to me Rawreth is being singled out , given a number of various applications over the last two years ( remember the umpteen lorry movements in creating a golf course proposition – by the firm that got a grant from RDC ).

  • Chris, as I understand it RBFC were given permission for two unspecified evenings per week. If that is correct then Academy could also apply for two unspecified evenings per week, and we could end up with football four evenings a week if they choose to play on different evenings. That situation would be even more unacceptable than the current one, but having given this permission it would be almost impossible to refuse Academy a similar application.

  • Christine I think everybody has forgotten about the 2 pitches in favour of sports events, who at the moment can only play on Sunday’s which is adult football. If they apply for the same as RBFC and we assume academy soccer will also do its all hell let loose and every night of the week we will have football being played and every weekend. I would like thank the Councillors who voted fore the amendment for their care and concern whilst messing with the lives of the residence of Old London Road & Church Road.WELL DONE

  • Jean, good point. I’m doing some research on other avenues you and the other residents might be able to explore, but it will take me a few days. I’m assuming this will come up at our next Council meeting so will make sure I have information by then
