THE DISTRICT COUNCIL’S DETAILED IDEAS 2 - Protecting Parks and Open Spaces

In the District Council’s latest discussion document, they list the following existing open spaces that should be protected from development:

• Plumberow Woods, Hockley
• Maryland’s Avenue open space, Hockley
• Pooles Lane Playing Field, Hullbridge
• Bedloes corner, Rawreth
• Rawreth Lane Playing Fields, Rawreth
• King George Playing Field, Rayleigh
• Fairview Playing Field, Rayleigh
• Turret House open space, Rayleigh
• Land South of Nelson Road, Rayleigh
• Brooklands Public Gardens, Rayleigh
• Great Wakering Playing Field, Great Wakering
• Glencroft Nurseries open space, Hockley
• Clements Hall Playing Fields, Hawkwell
• Spencers Park, Hawkwell
• Woodlands Avenue open space and Weir buffer strip, Hockley
• Lower Wyburns, Rayleigh
• Holly Tree Gardens open space, Rayleigh
• Kingley Wood, Rayleigh
• Wheatley Wood, Rayleigh
• St John Fisher Playing Field, Rayleigh
• Sweyne Park, Rayleigh
• Doggetts Wildlife Area, Rochford
• Rochford Recreation Ground, Rochford
• Magnolia Nature Reserve, Hawkwell
• King George Playing Field, Ashingdon Road, Ashingdon
• Bett’s Wood, Hockley
• Rochford Reservoir, Rochford
• Millview Meadow open space, Rochford
• Hockley Woods
• Grove Road open space and playing field, Rayleigh
• Hambro Hill open space, Rayleigh
• Hawkwell Common
• Canewdon Village Green
• Laburnham Grove play space, Hockley
• Lower Lambricks open space, Rayleigh
• Grove Road open space, Rayleigh
• Canewdon Playing Field

However there’s at least one open space that’s not included - the one behind Ferndale Road, Rayleigh, where Downhall Under Fives have their base. Apparently there’s no sinister motive here - it had simply never been included in any previous lists. We will do our UTMOST to add it to the list!

It might be well worthwhile for residents and councillors to check that all their local open spaces are included…..

Interestingly they have also left out a field, which has always been marked as public open space, in Hullbridge. The field is to the South of Malyons Lane and West of Abbey Road/Close.

Admin, the land off the A129, is some of this land owned by the Councillor who wants to sell to developers? The land off the A129 with “good links to the A1245″. The A1245 is gridlocked NOW, can you imagine what it will be like when there are all those new houses with the obvious extra traffic all wanting to get onto the A127. This is a recipe for a nighmare. How do these planners think we are going to absorb all this extra traffic? It will be a nightmare but of course if the Council and the inspectors say yes, that is it and we have to put up. Well I think we should enlighten the inspectors and let them know exactly how we feel!!

I have recently come across a small conservation area not on the attached list. Shopland Churchyard. According to a document entitled, Local Development Framework Evidence Base/ Shopland Churchyard Conservation Area Appraisal, by RDC dated October 2007, this area was designated in March 1992.
I stumbled upon this pleasant little area when at the Equestrian centre with my grandaughters. There is no signage, & no apparent maintenance. The report states it is of historic & local interest, including the Benton family graves. Does anyone know about this hidden gem, or is it another place that has fallen into a hole somewhere?

    Michael Hoy:

The field I was talking about (Malyons Field in Hullbridge) is Proposed Public Open Space.

As all the consultation so far has been with this field desiganted as Proposed Public Open Space presumably this will become Public Open Space should any developments go ahead.

No Cherry Orchard Jubilee Country Park either!
