Andrewes Celebrations In Rawreth

There will be some special events in Rawreth over the weekend of 24th/25th September to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible.
Lancelot Andrewes, who was in charge of the translation used to live at Chichester Hall in Rawreth.

The main events are these:

“Saturday 24th September

A Craft and Family Fun Fayre is being held in the village from 11am ? 4pm. The village hall will provide the setting for variety of handmade crafts, and refreshments. Entrance fee for craft fair is 50p for adults (kids go free).

The Church will be the focus for childrens activivities such as a puppet show, music workshop, games of 16th century, face painting, crafty/messy corner, stalls, Lancelot Andrewes & King James Bible exhibition, fancy dress competition, treasure hunt and much more! Entrance fee for church activities is 50p for children (adults, and kids in fancy dress go free!) Join us for this historically inspired event!

Later that day we are delighted to welcome The Friends?Musick. The 16th century influenced chamber choir will perform a concert of musical settings of Biblical Texts by various composers including Gibbons, Purcell, Handel and Stainer.

From 7.30pm until about 9pm will be an Evening of Song and Speech celebrating the King James Bible and its influence on English Language, Literature and culture. Tickets ?8. Booking is essential.
Sunday 25th September
_
The Dean and Chaplain of Pembroke, Cambridge, (Andrewes? former college) will preach at a service of Choral Matins at 11.00am (please note this is not our usual Sunday Service time).

The Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Rev Stephen Cottrell, will be the speaker at a lunch at the Chichester Hotel, Andrewes? former home
and at Choral Evensong in St Nicholas Church at 4pm. Both will be able to talk about the legacy of the King James Bible on the English language and literature and on our lives today.
