The District Council seems set to let Rayleigh Town Council become the lead council in matters involving Rayleigh’s Wednesday market.
The portfolio holder for Planning and Transportation , Keith Hudson, has made the following decision , which will come into effect unless it’s called in by someone….
DECISION MADE
1.1
That the Council endorses and supports a request by Rayleigh Town Council
to become the lead body for arranging the Rayleigh Wednesday Market on the expiry of the current market licence on 31st March 2011.
1.2
That officers review the need to change the designation of High Street,
Rayleigh from a ?consent street? to a ?licence street?, if an alternative location
for the market is identified in the High Street.
2
REASON FOR DECISION
2.1
Rayleigh Town Council is considered to be best placed to take the lead in
organising a town centre market, reflecting the emerging Localism agenda.

Are you sure that this is a request to become the lead body. My understanding from Town Council meetings is that more information is being collected and searched for before any decision is made. The work load involved both admistratively and physically is to be considered. Why is the market up for grabs? Rhetorical- we all know the answer.
Bruce perhaps you should have waited until after to the meeting tonight before you posted this comment. Lots of meetings/communication have taken place over the last two weeks involving myself as Chairman and Dave Sperring as Vice Chairman of Environment. As usual no decision will be made until it is discussed at Full Council in any event.
Thank you for adding this comment Cheryl and clarifying the situation.
No worries Bruce.
Please note that this will be discussed at Full Council on Monday 21st March 2011.
